Christopher Doray, Architect

“Better safe than sorry………..”

Chris Doray, designer + academic from Vancouver, who lived and worked in London while completing his Graduate Studies at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Architectural competitions are his greatest passion, even as a student in his second year at architecture school won him the National British Steel Award for a conversion of a derelict warehouse into a maritime museum. His career path brought him to the West Coast of Canada where he collaborated on Vancouver’s most prestigious design project; The Wall Centre which was awarded the Skyscraper Award for architectural excellence. He then served as Design Director with Bing Thom Architects, where under his design leadership was awarded the reputable MIPIM International Award for the Central City Project. Again under his tedious guidance, he landed the firm’s next grandeur project, Arena Stage in Washington DC. Most recently, he was awarded The People’s Choice Award for an Urban Design Proposal, East Side City; which aimed to diminish the mental divide between the East and the West side. Chris Doray Studio was established in 2009, emerging out of a new era of international collaborative work, notably in Asia and the Middle East where there are many of the greatest opportunities for experimental designs which have real development possibilities. During this time, teaching at Emily Carr University of Art + Design has remained a passionately constant

endeavor and is a perfect venue for nurturing the next generation of designers. He has participated as guest critic in schools, presented at conferences, and invited to jury panels on international competitions. Chris is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British

Architects.
